Carson Utility Cart
About
Made from white oak, Carson Utility Cart is a versatile piece of furniture made to move and find new purposes around the home. The exposed hardware is celebrated, reinforcing the nature of its simple construction, assembly, and how the pieces can be maintained over time. Carson moves with the owner from room to room, or beyond, from home to home.

Design
My intention for the design was to celebrate simple joinery with the form and to display and store items commonly used in different areas of a living environment. I began exploring interesting ways round and square parts can play off each other as they intersect at various points. I then built models to understand how the main components can fasten to one another easily and be flat-packed to the customer.
The asymmetric form with the addition of two front wheels gives a personality and sense of movement. The solid mast connecting to the handle stands confidently in the space it occupies and creates an affordance for the owner to hold.
